Sintonia’s “Tattooed” Experimental Flamenco Dance
Tattooed will be Sintonia’s (“in harmony” in Spanish) inaugural performance. The Oakland-based flamenco dance troupe was founded in 2018 by Fanny Ara and Marina Elana, who have been collaborating together and with other flamenco artists for the past 15+ years. Guest artist and local flamenco great, Yaelisa, and some of Spain’s foremost flamenco artists and musicians will join Sintonia in presenting Tattooed, which consists of a series of theatrical vignettes that utilize each dancer and musician as a player in the narrative, giving voice to survivors marked by abuse. Tattooed illustrates stories that have scarred yet shaped their lives. Ultimately, Tattooed is a proclamation of strength, resilience, and seeks to challenge people’s perspectives on flamenco and survivors. Sintonia’s mission is to create thought-provoking, culturally relevant dance productions through the powerful language of flamenco.
