AGITPROP! 2: An Evening of Mid-Century Social Justice
Black & white television and film didn’t always tackle controversial subjects in a black and white manner. During a more conservative time in Hollywood history, some writers, directors, and producers (many of whom were eventually blacklisted) boldly discussed topics that seem progressive even by today’s standards. In AGITPROP! 2: An Evening of Mid-Century Social Justice, abortion, racism, and social justice will be seen through a mid-century lens. In 1962’s “The Defenders” a doctor tried to change the law in a pre-Roe v. Wade America and the movies, “Open Secret” (1948) and “Crossfire” (1947) take on America’s mid-century social norms.
