Lipstick & Politics: EQ and Government
With election season upon us, what exactly does emotional intelligence (EQ) mean in the political space? EQ is necessary as a citizen, as a voter, and as an elected official, but may mean different things to each group. And leadership in the private sector is much different than leadership as an elected official. How, as citizens and voters, can we make sure our elected officials are accountable to all of their constituents, not just special interests or a narrow demographic? What soft skills should we be looking for in our governmental leaders? Should EQ have a larger role in politics altogether? It used to be thought that high IQ was the main indicator of a politician’s success. But maybe now EQ > IQ.
