San Francisco in a Century: Sci-Fi Writers In Conversation
No one can predict the future, but science fiction authors are practiced in projecting forward from today’s world into possible futures along cultural, technological, and scientific trajectories. So we’ve asked 3 celebrated writers to speculate about our local future. Authors Annalee Newitz, Hannu Rajaniemi, and Kim Stanley Robinson have all written about future societies, emergent technologies, and how this and other planets may change in the future. For this event, they’ll do the same thing a little closer to home. Where will we be in a century? What will this area look like in 2118? What will daily life be like? What about industry, government, and the environment? Imagining the future may ultimately tell us as much about the world we live in today as what is yet to come.
