SF Jewish Film Festival “Finsterworld”
A Finstacular Look at Modern Germany
The film was written by Frauke Finsterwalder, hence the title. It is about an assorted group of strangers living in modern-day Germany. We visit a pedicurist, a traffic cop, a wealthy couple and a teenage student. What do they have in common? According to the film, an absurdist, dark, and existential lack of meaning. It is a brooding tale, one that explores just what it means to live in a country with a past as dark as Germany’s. It may be satire, but it asks the right kind of questions (unlike that Ant-Man film).
