SF Jewish Film Festival “The Singing Abortionist”
Just Might Be the Most Polarizing Figure in Modern History
The title of this film alone should let know how it’s gonna be. Henry Morgentaler was a Polish-born survivor of the Lodz ghetto, Auschwitz and Dachau. He moved to Canada and became the face of the abortion movement. He was known for violating the then current laws by opening clinics across the country. Though celebrated as a hero by some, his often conflicting nature made him an alienating force to many. This documentary explores the doctor’s life. It pulls no punches, revealing him as a dedicated progressive, as well as a challenging antagonist.
