The World of György Ligeti: Hungarian Roots
György Ligeti was a legend in the contemporary classical music. You can have your Beethovens and Mozarts. Give me a little Ligeti any day. The World of György Ligetito: Hungarian Roots, is a celebration of this master’s body of work. Explore his Hungarian Jewish origins and rhythmic influences, from Béla Bartók to the folk music of Transylvania. The program begins with the fantastically inventive Musica Ricercata, a piece that Stanley Kubrick featured in his film Eyes Wide Shut, and ends with a soaring work set to Sephardic Jewish poetry by one of Ligeti’s greatest pupils, Roberto Sierra.
