“Translating Selena” a new play by Richard Montoya for Campo Santo
Living Word Project Presents in association with Campo Santo: “Translating Selena” a new play by Richard Montoya for Campo Santo, one week only at Brava Theatre Center- Cabaret. “Translating Selena” is a retelling of life in Corpus Cristi, Texas, where in the same week that Selena’s life was taken, homicides of a cisgender woman and Transwoman stained this small, working-class suburb. Montoya attempts to draw a line between the lives of these three women; measuring the weight of the lives lived and stories brought to an unceremonious end, of defiant dignity and glory. The result is unique storytelling at its finest, an invitation to consider the weight of the loss of those left behind, loving, yearning and measuring space.
