Yissy & Bandancha

As a child growing up in the slums of Havana, Yissy Garcia fell in love with drumming. Her passion for percussion propelled her from a life of poverty to a life as an award-winning musician who has traveled the world. With her band Bandancha, Garcia takes the traditional sounds of Cuban music and mixes them with contemporary sensibilities creating original compositions with jazz, R & B, funk, electronic, and Cubano beats. From the Havana World Music Festival to South by Southwest in Austin, TX, Garcia’s music feels at home. Yissy has performed with legendary Cuban musicians as well as Dave Matthews, Esperanza Spalding, and Joshua Bell.
