Sounds Good to Me: Funk, Flamenco, and Slop Pop

Your Hookup to Three Hot Bands This Week

By Adam Casalino – February 26, 2018

Okay, mis amigos, here’s the drill. You need to get out of the house. Yes, we all love Black Mirror, but let’s face it, you haven’t busted a move in far too long. So, slip out of those sweatpants, put on your dancing shoes, and get ready for one wild night. But where, oh where, can you find some of the best music in the Bay Area? Leave that to us. Here are three upcoming shows you won’t want to miss.

Pimps of Joytime
Fri 3/9/18 @ The UC Theatre, Berkeley
Do I really have to convince you of a band called Pimps of Joytime? The name alone is greatness itself. These funk masters are crafting fresh anthems that will dazzle your ears and get your hips moving. This team of troubadours is combining indie music from Brooklyn, funk from New Orleans, and classic, SF soul. To top that, they’re uniting us with our common desire for Peace, Love, and Music. How can you argue with that? Pimps of Joytime will be at the UC Theatre on March 9th.

Yaelisa y Caminos Flamencos
Sat 3/10/18 @ Ashkenaz, Berkeley
You know you cannot resist the flamenco! This passionate dance is more than just an awesome way to move your feet. It is a call to shake off the shackles of conformity and be free! Yaelisa y Caminos Flamencos is bringing the authentic flamenco sound and dance to the Bay Area. They take that tradition, spirit, and passion of this Spanish dance. A night with these masters at work will change your every preconception. Plus, you will have a heck of a lot of fun! They will perform at Ashkenaz Music and Dance Community Center on March 10th.

Cocktails
Sat 3/10/18 @ Ivy Room, Albany
Are you ready for a heavy dose of Cocktails? No, I don’t mean light and fruity drinks (although, pour me a few!). I’m talking about San Francisco’s own crafters of infectious slop-pop. This rock band is providing the area with a new take on vintage power pop and indie rock. Since 2012, they’ve been lighting up venues and burning fans with their energetic sound. Now they’re poised to burst from the indie scene and reinvent rock music as we know it. Be sure experience them, before they get too big. They’ll be at the Ivy Room this March 10th.

There you go, kiddies, three amazing acts to tantalize your musical taste buds. The Bay Area is simply dripping with awesome audible acts. Don’t go another week without getting a sample of the goodness. Your couch will be there waiting for you. The shows we’ve listed are perfect for a hot date, friends’ night out, or raging solo storm. But you can only get those choice tickets when you join RushTix. Don’t miss out!
