Sounds Good to Me: Psycho-Billy, Punk Rock & Afrobeat

Your Hookup to Three Hot Bands This Week

By Adam Casalino – January 15, 2018

The Bay Area is full of amazing things to do. But let’s face it, the best experiences are set to music. Your friends at RushTix have your hookup to three hot shows coming up.

Reverend Horton Heat
Wed 1/24/18 @ Cornerstone, Berkeley
Reverend Horton Heat is a trio hailing from Dallas, TX. As their name implies they are bringing the good news… of psychobilly. The group is led by the Reverend himself, a singer, songwriter, and guitarist. But what is psychobilly? It is an addictive rock style that blends the fun of rockability with punk. Yep, that’s a tasty combination. Reverend does the vocals. Jimbo Wallace is on the upright bass (you heard that right). And Scott Churilla is driving the beat with those drums. Check a listen to their goodness:

Anti-Flag
Fri 1/26/18 @ Slim’s, San Francisco
Anti-Flag is your answer to the endless flood of sugary-pop noise your girlfriend makes you listen to. Or your boyfriend, if he’s that kind of guy. Anti-Flag is pure, undiluted punk rock from the Steel City–Pittsburg, PA. These guys are holding true to the classic themes of anti-establishment punk music. The band is well known for politically charged lyrics and activism, focusing on anti-war activism, anti-imperialism, class struggle, human rights, and various sociopolitical sentiments. Plus their music will kick your butt. Don’t miss their unforgettable show.

Lagos Roots
Fri 1/19/18 @ The Chapel, San Francisco
Okay, so maybe punk-driven music is your thing. We get that. So how does incredible world music strike you? That’s just what our pals at The Chapel is bringing with Lagos Roots, a 15-piece Afrobeat Orchestra. Afrobeat is a force of nature. But a 15-piece orchestra? That’s something you need to feel as much as see. Fronted by Geoffrey Omadhebo (Sonny Okosuns, One World), this crew brings it back, straight to 1970s West Africa. Lagos Roots presents a version of unfiltered, deeply-grooved Nigerian/West Coast Afrobeat that follows a direct path to the beginnings of the genre.

With a lineup like this, we are spoiled for choice of great musical acts. Who says you have to leave the Bay Area to experience amazing musical experiences? But you can only be a part of these shows, if you book your tickets through RushTix. So get moving!
