Sounds Good to Me: French Rock, Singer-Songwriter, and Indie Rock

Your Hookup to Three Hot Bands This Week

By Adam Casalino – April 30, 2018

Another week, another chance to break away from the same old, same old. What better way to shake off the workday blues than with some incredible music? I mean, literally, you’ll get to shake your money maker. The Bay Area has plenty of great shows coming at you this week. But where to start? What’s going to have the best bang for your musical buck? Take a look at these three upcoming events. You’re sure to find something to tickle your ears.

Her
Sat 5/12/18 @ Cafe Du Nord, San Francisco
You probably already know a few of Her’s tunes. The French duo had a breakout hit in “Five Minutes” which was featured in one of Apple’s commercials. Not too shabby. That little chestnut garnered them over 6 million streams on Spotify. Fans the world over can’t get enough of their Euro-pop, French rock vibes. You’ll go gaga over their artful and provocative visuals, dreamy wave pop, and songs with a jazz undercurrent. They’ll be appearing at Café Du Nord on Saturday, May 12th.

Alela Diane
Thu 5/10/18 @ The Chapel, San Francisco
We feature plenty of amazing singer-songwriters. But few can captivate a listener quite like Alela Diane. Her music is powerfully personal. She throws off the industry’s expectations and crafts music that deeply resonates with her own experiences. Weaved with those lyrics is an infectious Americana packed with indie and psychedelic folk. She’s poised to wow audiences at The Chapel Thursday, May 10th.

Built To Spill & The Afghan Whigs
Fri 5/11/18 @ The UC Theatre, Berkeley
Sure. You may not be jiving with the singer-songwriter thing. We get that. For those who need some indie rock in their diet, there’s Built To Spill & The Afghan Whigs. Formed in Boise, Idaho back in 1992, Built to Spill has been bringing the good word of indie rock for over twenty years. Joining them will be The Afghan Whigs, rockers who infuse their music with heavy doses of soul. They will be lighting up the UC Theatre on Friday, May 11th.

You’re spoiled for choice this week. Amazing Euro-pop, Americana singer-songwriter, and indie rock. A veritable spectrum of delectable tunes. You can’t go wrong picking any—or all—of these great shows. When you peel back the veneer of the Bay Are, you find unforgettable events like these happening all the time. It’s up to you to pull that ripcord and book your tickets. But you can only get in on the fun when you book with RushTix!
